Lagoon City Marina offers a comprehensive VHF radio certification course designed to teach both emergency procedures and everyday marine radio operation. The course covers key topics including proper radio usage, frequency selection, the phonetic alphabet, procedural phrases, and an introduction to Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
Registration includes a course textbook, an in-person review session at the marina, and the final examination for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC endorsement. Independent study is required prior to the course date. Upon successful completion, participants receive their ROC(M) license—a lifelong certification required by law for anyone operating a marine VHF radio in Canada. This course is also ideal for upgrading an existing license to include the DSC endorsement.

Get prepared for emergencies both on the water and ashore with the Marine Basic First Aid Course hosted at Lagoon City Marina. This Transport Canada-approved course is taught by a certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor and meets the standards outlined in TP 13008 E.
The course includes approximately 7–8 hours of online learning followed by two 4-hour in-person sessions at the marina. It provides a comprehensive 16-hour certification ideal for recreational boaters, marina staff, or anyone pursuing credentials such as a rating certificate, Master or Chief Mate limited certification, or authorization to provide first aid aboard a vessel operating in near-coastal (class 2) or sheltered waters.

Course Content:
Upon successful completion*, participants will receive a 3-year certification in Red Cross Basic Marine First Aid. *Students must attend 100% of the course and score at least 75% on the multiple choice knowledge test to be successful.
